CIALIS: WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Cialis is a medication for the treatment of erectile dysfunction , the drug is also used for the treatment of high blood pressure that is pulmonary arterial hypertension. The FDA have approved Cialis to not just treat male inability to get or maintain an erection but it also has approval for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia which is a prostrate condition that may cause urinary disorders. Sometimes Cialis is used for the treatment of both erectile dysfunction and benign prostatic hyperplasia at the same time.

Cialis is a swallow-able  tablet and comes in four different strengths ranging from the 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg and 20 mg. Prescription fr each strength depends on the situation of the patient being treated and is supposed to be taken before engaging in sexual intimacy or at most once daily.

What is Tadalafil?

Tadalafil is what is contained in Cialis and is of a group of medications called phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitors. When treating erectile dysfunction what Cialis does is that it relaxes the blood vessels connecting to the penis to ensure a stronger flow of blood into the penis. On the other hand for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia, Cialis relaxes the muscles in the  bladder, which helps to facilitate an easier urination process. Availability of Cialis is only by prescription and not sold over the counter.

 

COMPARING CIALIS AND VIAGRA 

Both Cialis and the Viagra of the group of medication called phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitors that are used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.

A difference between Cialis and Viagra is the duration of time they last in a human system. Cialis lasts in the body causing hardness of the penis for about 18 hours while the Viagra lasts in the body causing penile erection in a man for about 4  to 6 hours.

Another difference is that it takes 16 to 45 minutes for Cialis to work and it is not affected by food. Viagra on the other hand manifests within 30 minutes, it’s effect is affected by food as food can diminish it’s effectiveness if Viagra is taken immediately after a meal high in fat. Therefore Viagra is best taken on an empty stomach.

All phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitors have similar effect  although studies have shown that Viagra have an 84% effectiveness level while Cialis have an effectiveness level of 81%. Notwithstanding most men prefer Cialis to Viagra because it lasts longer in the system.

Side effects: Cialis and Viagra

Both Cialis and Viagra have some side effects in common and these include:

• Flushing (redness or warmth of the face, neck, or chest)
• Headaches
• Stomach pain or upset
• Flu-like symptoms (such as stuffy nose, sneezing or sore throat)
• Memory problems,
• Muscle or back pain,
• Blurred vision and changes in color vision (that is an inability to differentiate between the colors green and blue)
• Dizziness
• Diarrhea,
• Nausea,
• Low blood pressure,
• Abnormal ejaculation and prolonged erections (priapism),
• Loss of hearing and ringing in the ears.

Just as is common with most drugs, certain people can be allergic to taking the drug Cialis. During it’s clinical trials a number of allergic reactions was recorded but it was not specified what number of persons proven to be allergic to the said drug. These allergic reactions included severe rash and skin conditions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome which is a life threatening rash that causes painful blisters.
